Orientation to the Canadian Health Care System, Culture and Context
is a course designed for internationally educated health professionals who are in the process of becoming licensed in Canada. It is offered three times per year.

This course will provide learners with a deepened understanding of the Canadian health care system, what Canadian patients expect from their health care providers, and how to communicate with patients and caregivers. Participants will have an opportunity to interact with other internationally educated health care professionals in a supportive learning environment. This course is recognized by the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators, the Ontario College of Pharmacists, and the Midwives Consortium to address gaps in knowledge for licensing.

What Previous Participants Have Said:

"As I am new to this country, I learned many new things about health care system, ethics, rules and regulations which is totally different from my country where I got my education. Therefore, this course not only provides education but also provides information about new country and helps us to remain far away from any faults, which is more important for new comers."
- Orientation participant, Winter 2013 course

“The interesting part of this course was interactive nature of this course. I got an opportunity to communicate with students of varying health care professions from different part of world through discussion forums. It was really fascinating to see different perspectives of peers on the same case.”
- Orientation participant, Winter 2013 course

"With the help of the course and the discussion we had about the Canadian health care delivery system, I was able to pass the Canadian RN examination given last June 3, 2009. It's really a big help, especially for a newly landed Immigrant like me. I am very excited on the coming days to upgrade profession from a PSW to a Registered Nurse in Canada. And I thank you all for that."
- Orientation participant, Winter 2009 online course

"The course had tremendously helped me in understanding the health care setting in Canada.  The outline adheres to the current settings and needs in the industry.  And most importantly, the facilitators give superb input and enhance the learning skills of the participants."
